Will Pope Beats Johnson County

I am pleased to announce that I have (as expected) defeated the Johnson County Kansas Board of Commissioners in their egregious attempt to steal this domain. While I had hoped to retire from the practice of law after beating the United States Government in my January 6 case, I followed the path of Michael Jordan, knowing that sometimes the great ones have to come out of retirement for more glorious victories.

The Johnson County Board of Commissioners began this attempted theft on March 27, 2025, when they foolishly voted unanimously in a closed session to have their county legal team file a complaint against me with the World Intellectual Property Organization. To be fair, at the time, they did not know who owned the domain, or that they would be tangling with the greatest Pro Se legal mind in American history. But regardless of this, they should have never weaponized the Johnson County government against a Kansan in an attempt to steal a valuable property from a Kansas business.

On April 7, 2025, I was sent a copy of the complaint. I then repeatedly advised the attorneys representing the Board of Commissioners that it would be foolish for them to proceed, as I would otherwise have to publicly defeat them in a legal contest that I did not choose to be part of. Despite these warnings, they filed an amended complaint and pushed forward.

I filed my response on May 7, 2025, pointing out that the government of Johnson County had no trademark rights to the domain, and that I had sincerely registered jocokansas.com for my business and academic studies. Three weeks after registering the domain, my plans to develop it were derailed by the events of January 6, 2021, and by my four-year legal battle with the United States government – which I won.

The dispute was adjudicated by the respected Frederick M. Abbott, who is professor at Florida State University, and is considered an expert in this area of law. To win, I needed only to successfully defend one of the critical elements of the complaint, but Professor Abbott found that I overwhelmingly beat their attorneys on all three elements. Total victory!

As they arrogantly noted in their complaint, the Johnson County Board of Commissioners are the governing body of the “most populated county in the state.” I would like to note for the record that they (and their highly paid attorneys) lost to a guy from the ghetto of Topeka.

This domain, jocokansas.com, remains my property, and it is mine to do with as I please. If I choose to develop it, I will, or if I choose to sell it to an interested business or organization, I will. This is my decision alone to make. The Board of County Commissioners of Johnson County Kansas should have never attempted to steal it. I hope this will be a lesson to all governments to respect private property and refrain from seizing what you covet by force.
